Take Action! Ask Congress to Preserve SAMHSA Funding
The House and Senate are in negotiations about the fiscal year 2012 budget and we need your help today to preserve critical funding for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Funding for Second Chance Act and Addiction Treatment and Recovery Support are in Jeopardy. Contact Your US Senators and Representatives immediately!
Spending or appropriations bills in Congress are being debated that will affect the future of the Second Chance Act, the critical federal law that provides grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, housing, family programming, mentoring, victims support, and other services that can help reduce recidivism.
The US Senate eliminated funding for the Second Chance Act in its version of the FY 12 funding bill for the Department of Justice. In July, the House Appropriations Committee provided $70 million in its fiscal year 2012 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill. Although funding was eliminated in the Senate bill, there is still time to restore funding for the program when the House and Senate Appropriations Committees meet to resolve differences between the two spending bills. We need YOUR help. Contact your Members of Congress and ask them to support funding for Second Chance Act.
Ask your Representative to join the Congressional Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus
The Congressional Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus is a forum for raising awareness and educating members of Congress about addiction and recovery.
Ask your Senator to help Reauthorize the Second Chance Act
We need your help to secure reauthorization of The Second Chance Act. This important law is a common-sense response to support people returning to our communities from prisons, jails, and juvenile facilities. It supports addiction and mental health treatment, mentoring, job training and education opportunities, housing, and other critical needs of people returning home from incarceration.
Save the Recovery Community Services Program (RCSP)
Meet with your members of Congress and ask them to support the Recovery Community Services Program (RCSP).
We need your help to make sure that the Recovery Community Services Program is continued by making a personal contact with your US Senators and Representative to ask them to fund the RCSP program at $5.23 million in FY 2012.
